University of Trento
Sergio Castañeda is a postdoctoral fellow in Nicola Segata's Laboratory of Computational Metagenomics at the CIBIO Department of the University of Trento, which he joined in February 2025. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical and Biological Sciences from Universidad del Rosario in Colombia, where he studied host-microbiome interactions in transmissible diseases. His research leverages computational metagenomics, multi-omics analytics, and tool development to explore the gut microbiome in oncology, focusing on transmission dynamics, cancer immunotherapy, and microbiome-modifying interventions. Recently, as part of the Oncobiome Atlas Consortium funded by the Seerave Foundation, he supports the design and implementation of bioinformatic pipelines for data harmonization, systematic curation, and multi-layer profiling (taxonomic, functional, and strain-level) across public and clinical cohorts to unravel microbial signatures driving treatment response and resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors.
