Joseph Tintelnot

Dr. Tintelnot studied human medicine in Hamburg and London. He conducted his experimental medical thesis in immunology and completed his clinical training in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology, maintaining a strong research focus on immunotherapy. He received laboratory training in tumor immune escape mechanisms, microbiota–immune interactions, and cancer biology. Clinically, he specializes in gastrointestinal oncology, immunotherapy, and innovative combinatorial treatment approaches. He directs IITs that integrate clinical and laboratory research to understand why immunotherapy efficacy differs among patients. He is particularly interested in how the microbiota and its metabolites influence treatment responses, and how these interactions can be modulated through diet. He conducts his own IITs exploring these mechanisms, with the overarching goal of harnessing the power of the immune system to improve patient outcomes. He is currently a senior physician and research group leader at the II. Medical Department of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and the Hamburg Center for Translational Immunology.
