Chiel Nijboer, MD, is a PhD candidate in Medical Oncology and Gastroenterology at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) in the Netherlands, a position he took up in 2026. He studied medicine at the University of Groningen, completing clinical rotations at ZGT in Almelo and a research internship in neuro-oncology at Medisch Spectrum Twente in Enschede. Before beginning his doctoral research he worked as a resident not in training at the Martini Hospital in Groningen, first in gastroenterology and hepatology and subsequently in intensive care, following a semi-physician placement in gastroenterology and hepatology at the UMCG.
