New Perspective Paper Published in Cancer Cell on Melanoma and Microbiota

We are thrilled to announce the publication of a visionary perspective paper in Cell Press: Melanoma and microbiota: Current understanding and future directions, authored by some of the fields’ key opinion leaders The paper offers compelling evidence indicating the profound impact of gut microbiota on the immune and clinical response of cancer patients and marking a significant milestone in cancer research.

Too often groundbreaking cancer research is happening in siloed institutions. What if the foremost leaders in even one cancer type, say, melanoma, could unite for open discussions, data sharing, and collaborative translational efforts?

Thanks to a collaboration between the Melanoma Research Alliance and us, this vision became a reality last year. As a result, the invited thought leaders gained clarity on existing challenges, began working collaboratively on solutions, established standards to guide future research, and formulated effective strategies to advance the field.

This paper is a milestone in alignment and consensus building and we are immensely grateful to the exceptional contributions of all participants, especially the senior authors of this perspective paper: Jennifer McQuade, MD Anderson Cancer Center; Hassane Zarour, University of Pittsburgh; Laurence Zitvogel at Gustave Roussy; as well as first author, Bertrand Routy of the CR CHUM.

We invite you to read the paper, share your comments or feedback with us, and spread this vital information among physicians, researchers and supporters who share our commitment to advancing cancer treatment.

Finally, we are very grateful to have been invited to provide the cover image of the the first issue of Cancer Cell in 2024. This has been designed by the talented street artist Simon Röhlen, known as KEF! from Berlin.
